The project is located in Sea Bright, New Jersey. Originally named 'Nauvoo' - meaning beautiful or pleasant place, it was the largest fishery of the coast. Development of the local roads, homes, and business gave Sea Bright the nickname of the “Townhouse Town”; it is comprised of private beach clubs along the shore that are exclusively NOT for the public. The Municipal Complex seeks to enhance the public experience interlocking the coastal landscape and water with the built environment rendering land and building as one.

After the destruction of Hurricane Sandy, the Government intervened and built a seawall for protection. The lack of design created a need for improvement of the local urban condition. The structure becomes symbol of power, resiliency, and embodies the ability of the community to come together as one. The Town Hall is the center of the town and acts as architectural pivoting point for the new urban redevelopment. Its form is developed by the rhythm of the existing urban form; views and hard edges are carefully designed in respect to program, and design intent.

Designing with water was essential not only to create a pleasant environment, but to create a safe beacon for citizens to reach in occasion of natural disaster.

The structure is versatile and is designed to withstand future catastrophes; the elevation from the ground and careful planning of the program allows the building to perform under all conditions.
